- er moet binnen 12-24 uur een pneumokokken-urineantigeentest verricht worden; indien positief kan versmald worden naar penicilline iv of amoxicilline iv.
- er moet binnen 12-24 uur een Legionella-urineantigeentest verricht worden

Bij aspiratie is het routinematig geven van antibiotica gericht tegen anaerobe bacteriën niet nodig, tenzij er een vermoeden is van empyeem of longabces.
